An easy method to relax after a busy day


I'm not sure about you but sometimes I feel like my mind is racing from the second my eyes open in the morning to the second I close them in bed. It can be so hard to unwind after a long day, here we are going to look at a few simple steps to make things a little easier.  


If you’ve read any of my previous articles you’ll know I do rave about meditation a lot. The trickiest part of meditation for many people is getting a clear mind so let's have a look of some steps to take first before a mediation. Firstly after a long day as tempting as it is to turn on the tele or sit on your phone studies have shown this isn’t a good way to calm the mind from a busy day. It's a great idea to disconnect even if you want to reconnect to the technology later. 

First step I would recommend when you get home is to get into something comfortable and get a glass of water. Dehydration is a big cause of tiredness and headaches and many of us, including myself don’t drink enough water during the day.

Now is a great time once hydrated to find a quiet space to find your calm. I'm a big follower of journaling and after a busy day it's a great way to destress. Even if you only write a few words it's a great way to clear the energy of the day and set some good intentions. Having this as a daily practise and making it into a routine will make it gradually easier and quicker to win down. I would suggest to write down 3 things you are grateful for during the day and 3 intentions you want to set for the next day. This helps to let go of things in the past and manifest beautiful things for your future.


After you have done this (and I would recommend writing this in a diary as opposed to loose paper so you can date and time things to reflect on later)


Now is your time to meditate on it. Take the book in your hand, thank the universe for your miraculous body and life and take 5-15 minutes to release the energy of the day. Sit somewhere comfy, close your eyes and and try your best to just focus on your own breath. Allow the thoughts in your brain to flow slowly out until your mind is clear. Meditation isn’t always easy and it can take some time to get the hang of it but stick at it I promise it’ll be worth it in the end!

 

Hopefully if you’ve been through all these steps you will feel a lot calmer and ready to have a relaxing evening without the stresses of work. Those few minutes meditating clears the mind and allows a fresh onlooker to the rest of the evenings activities. Even if you do want to watch tv or sit on your phone the gap between the days activities and night activities has allowed your mind some time to recharge!
